SuttonMed Systems reached out for guidance and insights from sports experts advisors to ensure the Athlete Health Management System meets the core needs of its clients and stakeholders.

Chris Broadhurst, ATC

Chris has worked the last three seasons as the Phoenix Coyotes Head Athletic Therapist having previously worked 16 seasons as the Toronto Maple Leafs’ Head Athletic Therapist. Chris received his start in athletic therapy with the Championship Toronto Blue Jays’ Class A minor league affiliate in St. Catharines, Ontario. Chris served as athletic therapist at NHL All-Star Games, at the Winter Olympic Games in Japan and has represented Canada at World Championships and the Canada Cup. Chris is a certified member of the Canadian Athletic Therapist Association and a Director of the Clinic for Sports Medicine.

Betty Steele, ESQ, CISSP

Betty heads up Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC,'s information security management practice. As one of a few attorneys in the U.S. who is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), she has extensive experience in designing and providing training for corporate compliance programs that integrate regulatory, business and technology requirements, standards and best practices.

Betty is a member of the Board of Directors of the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the Information Systems Security Association and is also the principal provider of content to the HIPAA web site, www.privacycentral.net. Betty served as acting Co-Chair of the Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence Board of Directors, was a member of its Board of Examiners and was a co-drafter of international criteria for that program.

Betty received her J.D. from the Vanderbilt University School of Law where she was a member of the Vanderbilt Law Review, and her B.A. from Brown University.

Dave Surprenant, ATC

Dave was the Head ATC with the Minnesota North Stars/Dallas Stars (NHL) for over 20 years. Dave is an original member of the NHL Health Management Panel (for the AHMS installation). Dave also worked for 3 years as a summer assistant athletic trainer for the New Orleans Saints NFL team.

DR. D. Rod Walters, DA, ATC

Rod has over 27 years experience as an athletic trainer, working at Lenoir-Rhyne College in North Carolina and then the University of South Carolina. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine. In 2003 Rod received the Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award and in 2005, was inducted into NATA’s Hall of Fame. Rod is a recipient of the Pioneer Award in 2006 with the North Carolina Athletic Trainers Association.
